Discover Zhangjiajie, a fairy-tale destination in northwest Hunan Province, China. Famous for its breathtaking mountains, deep valleys, and lush forests. With its misty peaks and dramatic landscapes that inspired the floating mountains in Avatar, Zhangjiajie is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers.
Zhangjiajie enjoys a mild temperate climate with an average annual temperature of around 16°C. Summers are warm with July being the hottest month at around 32°C, while winters are cool with January averaging about 4.3°C.
Rainfall is spread throughout the year, and misty weather often creates a magical atmosphere as clouds surround the towering sandstone peaks. Zhangjiajie is beautiful in every season, but the best time to visit is generally from April to October when the weather is more comfortable for outdoor activities.

Wulingyuan Scenic Area
In the scenic area, the spots are connected by the shuttle bus which makes it more convenient for your visit. Therefore if you are at the top of either Tanzi Mountain, Yangjiajie Scenic Area or Yuanjiajie Scenic Area you can easily get on the bus to reach another spot instead of hiking down and up.

Yuanjiajie Scenic Area
Yuanjiajie is one of the most popular and iconic areas in Zhangjiajie. You can take the 326-metre-high Bailong Elevator to reach the top in just 88 seconds, or enjoy a scenic hike that takes around one hour.

Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon
This place incorporates deep canyons, streams, waterfalls, caves, cliffs, and forest, providing you a strenuous hiking route. A granite slide is available for you to slide down to the bottom of the canyon. At the end of the hiking route, there is a reservoir where you can take a boat ride to the exit. The Glass Bridge is long (430m) and high (300m) pedestrian glass bridge.

Yangjiajie Scenic Area
Yangjiajie Scenic Area is the smallest of the four main areas within Wulingyuan Scenic Area and is a favourite among backpackers and nature lovers. From this viewpoint, you can admire a series of towering mountain walls rising dramatically from the landscape, creating one of Zhangjiajie’s most spectacular natural scenes.

Taimen Mountain
Tianmen Mountain is a must-visit attraction that offers unforgettable views and thrilling experiences. The best way to begin your journey is by taking the 7-kilometre cable car, which takes around 30 minutes to travel from the city centre to the mountain top.
Zhangjiajie offers a unique culinary experience influenced by Hunan Cuisine (Xiang Cuisine), one of China’s eight famous regional cuisines. Known for its bold flavours, including fragrant, sour, and spicy tastes, Zhangjiajie’s food also reflects the traditions of local ethnic groups, including the Tujia, Bai, and Miao communities.
Must-try: Zhangjiajie Mixed Pot, Tujia Minority Preserved Pork Dish, Loach Stewed with Tofu, Sour Fried Fish, Blood Tofu, Pueraria Lobata Starch.
Air
Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport is conveniently located only 5 km from downtown. The airport provides easy access to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and other major attractions. Flying is the fastest and most convenient way to reach Zhangjiajie. The airport operates numerous domestic flights from major Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, as well as international routes from destinations such as Busan and Bangkok.
Train
Zhangjiajie is easily accessible by high-speed train from major cities, including Chongqing (around 4 hours), Chengdu (7 hours), Guilin (7 hours), Shanghai (9 hours), and Beijing (10 hours). Regular trains are also available from destinations such as Yichang, Wuhan, Tongren, and Xi’an. Trains arrive at either Zhangjiajie West Railway Station or Zhangjiajie Railway Station.
