Fantastic pillars and peaks wonderland
Mount Sanqingshan National Park is a 22,950 ha property situated in the west of the Huyaiyu mountain range in the northeast of Jiangxi Province. It has been inscribed for its exceptional scenic quality, marked by the concentration of fantastically shaped pillars and peaks. The park boasts 48 granite peaks and 89 granite pillars, many of which resemble human or animal silhouettes. The natural beauty of Mount Huaiyu, which stands at 1,817 metres, is enhanced by the combination of granite features, vegetation, and unique meteorological conditions. This creates an ever-changing and captivating landscape, complete with bright halos on clouds and white rainbows. The area experiences a blend of subtropical monsoonal and maritime influences, forming a temperate forest island amidst the surrounding subtropical landscape. The area boasts lush forests, numerous waterfalls – some as high as 60 metres – and picturesque lakes and springs.
March to May and September to October are the best time to visit Mount Sanqing. Mount Sanqing is located in a subtropical climate zone but exhibits characteristics of an alpine climate. The average annual temperature ranges from 10 to 12 ℃, with July temperatures averaging 21.8 ℃. Annual rainfall averages around 2000 mm. The best time to visit is in autumn when there is less rain and the rare phenomenon of Buddha’s light may be observed.
Nanqing Scenic Spot
Nanqing Scenic Spot is a stunning location with a unique natural landscape. The area has an elevation of 1557 meters and boasts several iconic peaks, including The Python Coming out of the Mountain and Oriental Goddess. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the sunset and sunrise from locations such as LiuXia Terrace and Jade Terrace. Every year in May and June, blossoms can be seen here and there, which is quite impressive.
Western Scenic Spot
Located in the western part of Mount Sanqingshan, the Western Scenic Spot is the largest area in the region, with an average elevation of 1600 meters. Mount Sanqingshang has been inundated three times, and the West Coast was the coastline during those times. The area has a longest and highest plank road along the cliff, as well as astronomical wonders such as the cloud sea, sunrise, and Buddha light.
Saqing Holy Lang Scenic Spot
The Sanqing Holy Lang Scenic Spot is located in the northern part of Mount Sanqingshan. This area is home to the landmark building of Taoism in Mount Sanqingshan and has a history of over 1600 years. It boasts over 260 sites of ancient buildings and cultural relics, including Taoist temples, halls, mansions, lanes, tombs, and bridges.
Xihua Scenic Spot
The Xihua Scenic Spot is situated in the northern part of Mount Sanqingshan and offers picturesque views of mountains, rivers, and rice terraces. The She ethnic minority group resides in this area and leads a simple life. Xihua Stand has been a climbing destination since the Song dynasty. Additionally, Xihua Scenic Spot covers a vast area of virgin forest. It is refreshing to see the vast green woodlands and ancient trees.
Shiguling Scenic Spot
Shiguling Scenic Spot is located in the southern part of Mount Sanqingshan and boasts spectacular flowing springs and waterfalls. The largest waterfall in Mount Sanqingshan, Yuling waterfall, is located in Shiguling Scenic Spot. The Saqing Mountain waterfall is 34 meters high and 30 meters wide.
The cuisine in this area is called Gan Cuisine and is derived from the native cooking styles of Jiangxi province in southern China. Jiangxi cuisine has a long history and consists of local dishes that have developed into unique dishes with strong provincial characteristics. Special local products are widely popular. Jiangxi offers a variety of local snacks and pastries, each with its own unique characteristics and cooking methods.
Must-try: Three Cups of Foot Fish, Quick-fried Lushan Fish with Egg, Flavor Bake Bittern, Poyang Lake Large Meatball Shred, Kuanglu Stone Chicken Leg.
From Shangrao
Direct buses depart regularly from Shangrao Bus Station to the Southern cableway of the south of Sanqingshan at 7:00, 8:00, 9:00, 10:30, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, and 15:30. Shuttle buses depart from the south of Sanqingshan (Sanqingshan International Resort Hotel) to Shangrao at 8:00, 9:30, 11:00, 12:30, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00, and 17:00. The Hilton Sanqingshan Resort provides complimentary pickups from Shangrao for its guests.
From Shanghai
To travel from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station to Yushan South Station, take the fast train which takes approximately 3 hours. From Yushan, you can take a bus to the base of the mountain.
